Committee Chair Meeting Minutes

February 21, 2001 @ 7:00 p.m.

Attended: Niki Bisor, Chris Henderson, Ken Robinson and Paul Stafford.

 

Called to Order: 7:35 p.m. by Ken Robinson

 

Prayer: led by Chris Henderson

 

Committee Reports:

There were no reports at this meeting.  A summarization of what each committee is responsible for was discussed during this time.

 

q       Consolidation Committee - Chris Henderson, Chair.  The consolidation committee will work with the Association of Former Students to possibly bring the Black Former Students Network under the AFS banner.  The committee will work with Shawn Miller, AFS Director of Clubs and Programs to determine how the BFSN consolidation with AFS will take place.

 

q       Communications Committee - Niki Bisor, Chair.  The communications committee is tasked with keeping the BFSN Steering Committee as the general Black Former Student body informed of the progress the BFSN Steering Committee is making.  It is also the committee's duties to update and enhance the BlackAggies.org website.

 

q       Constitution & By-Laws Committee - Paul Stafford, Chair.  The main thrust of the Constitution & By-Laws committee is to create the constitution that the BFSN will function under.

 

Old Business:

1.      TAMU Foundation has created an Endowed Scholarship under the banner of the Black Former Students Network.  The amount to be raised is $40,000.  The BFSN will need to come up with a strategy for promoting this scholarship to the Black Former Student body as well as find out how much has been raised thus far.

2.      Financial statement for the 2001 reunion will be needed at the next chair meeting.

 

New Business:

1.      All committee chairs should communicate with their committee sometime before March 3, 2001.  Some of the topics that should be discussed are future meetings with the committee, the goals of the committee, etc.

2.      Ken Robinson will submit a status to the BFSN newsletter once a week.  Committee Chairs must send Ken a status once a week as well.  The BFSN Schedule and Timeline are undergoing revisions at this time.  The following items were changed in the schedule:

2.1.   Consolidation Meeting in College Station - previously scheduled for 2/27/01 is TBD by Chris Henderson and Shawn Miller.

2.2.   Committee Chair Meeting for March is scheduled for 3/10/01 at 8:00 a.m.  Place is still TBD.

2.3.   Steering Committee Meeting in Dallas - previously scheduled for 3/3/01 is now scheduled for 3/24/01.  Place is still TBD.

2.4.   1st Draft Constitution Review / Suggestion period - previous scheduled 3/12/01 - 3/16/01 will now be scheduled 3/12/01 - 3/20/01.

2.5.   Consolidation Meeting in College Station - previously scheduled for 3/13/01 is TBD by Chris Henderson and Shawn Miller.

2.6.   Steering Committee Meeting in Houston - previously scheduled for 3/31 is now cancelled.

2.7.   2nd Draft Constitution Review / Suggestion period - scheduled for 4/2/01 - 4/9/01.

2.8.   Committee Chair Meeting for April is scheduled for 4/14/01.  Place and time is still TBD.

2.9.   Consolidation Meeting in College Station - previously scheduled for 4/17/01 is TBD by Chris Henderson and Shawn Miller.

2.10.                    Website update scheduled for 4/29/01.

2.11.                    Steering Committee Meeting in College Station - previously scheduled for 5/12/01 is now TBD.

3.      Committee Chair Meetings will be held once a month on Saturdays.

5.      Open Issues: 

5.1.   Membership:  The Black Former Student Network membership will consist of those Former Students who are interested in the organizations.

5.2.   Appointments to the Inaugural Board of the BFSN - Appointments will be made by the Chair of the Steering Committee.  Those people currently working on the Steering Committee will be the eligible candidates for these positions.  If a committee member shows his/her interest in being in a leadership position then the Committee Chairs should forward their name to the Steering Committee Chair.
